Neil

Neil started his career in 1984 as an optician intern for a well-known Board Certified Ophthalmologist. After his internship, Neil went to work for a highly respected Optometrist.

In 1986 Neil was hired to manage a high fashion optical store in Newport Beach California. For the next 10 years he managed this boutique optical store. He was also involved in the establishment of a wholesale eyeglass division for the company.

In 1996 Neil moved to New York to represent a collection of wholesale frames throughout the United States. After many years of retail and wholesale experience in the optical industry, Neil moved back in Los Angeles where he was able to utilize his skills and knowledge to venture into the laser vision field.
In 2000 Neil joined Ophthalmology Associates of the Valley as Refractive Surgery Consultant. He is currently involved in various aspects of the practice including laser vision correction, cataract surgery and all new marketing plans for OAV.

Neil is currently certified by the American Board of Opticianry as a Certified Optician and also holds several acknowledgments in vision correction education from two of the top lasers manufactures in the world. Neil has worked closely with refractive surgeons in patient education as well as preoperative and postoperative preparation and continues to attend seminars in order to ensure that he is up to date on the latest technology.

Sarah Reyes Haakonsen, O.D.

Dr. Sarah R. Haakonsen earned her Doctor of Optometry degree at The New England College of Optometry, in Boston Massachusetts in 1990 and has served the Southern California area for the past 15 years, in various clinical settings in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Ventura counties. Her experience includes an internship and clinical training in ocular disease at Omni Eye Services in Baltimore, Maryland and the Veterans Administration Medical Clinic in Boston.  She has gained advanced certification and demonstrates expertise in the use of state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques to deliver comprehensive and accurate eye care. Dr. Haakonsen also has extensive clinical experience in contact lens fitting, spectacle dispensing and the use of DPA and TPA routinely in coordination withOphthalmologists in general ophthalmology and refractive surgery, including LASIK.  For seven years, she was the lead Optometrist at Mullikin Medical Center in Glendale, California.  Dr. Haakonsen also holds a degree in Biology from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
